The memorandum was signed between the German Institute for Building Technology and the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety within the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations in Baku.

The signing ceremony was held in the framework of the conference on EU twinning project “Support to the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety within the MES in the field of transition to EU construction standards”.

Azerbaijan has seen a construction boom in the recent years, said Malena Mard, EU ambassador to Azerbaijan.

"This raises a number of problems. The project was launched on the initiative of the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety to eliminate these problems”, said Mard. “Firstly, the project involved the legislation’s improvement to bring it up to European standards and has contributed to the emergence of new opportunities for cooperation in the construction industry with the Azerbaijani state bodies”.

This project has played an important role in the improvement of all the potential of state agency’s administrative structures, and helped to identify gaps and solve problems with the control over construction safety, noted Rahim Latifov, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations.

Total cost of the twinning project is 900 thousand euros, and implementation period - 19 months.
