Baku, December 15 AZERTAC
Hundreds have gathered in Martin Place to remember Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson — victims of the Cafe Lindt siege exactly a year ago. A poignant memorial service is planned, with what has been promised as a “stunning” conclusion.
A projection of last year’s huge floral tribute to the victims will be beamed onto the facade of the building atop the Lindt Cafe to remind friends and family of the victims that their loss will never be forgotten.
Some Sydneysiders have brought Australian flags as a sign of solidarity and defiance in the face of terror.
Despite the gloomy weather, there is a healthy crowd gathering at the heart of Sydney, which came to a grinding halt for more terrible reasons 12 months ago.
An enormous police contingent is patrolling the area, sniffer dogs are combing the crowd and roads are shut.
The hostages who escaped Man Monis last year are present to join in the commemoration. Marcia Mikhael embraced Selina Win Pe for nearly a minute when she arrived.
