Tehran, Iran, December 19
By Mehdi Sepahvand –- Trend:
All schools across Iran’s capital city Tehran will be closed on December 20 and 21, Director of Tehran Education Department Esfandyar Charband said.
He said the closure is due to air pollution and applies for all grades, Tashim news agency reported December 19.
Air pollution is rampant in the large city, especially in cold days with still air.
While the city can normally accommodate one million vehicles, currently over four million cars traffic the streets.
Bad emission rating is only one side of the problem, as the city also suffers from various nearby industrial units polluting the air. Iran suffers high energy intensity in all domestic and industrial sectors.
