Iran brought clarity to reports made by the UAE regarding the seizure of an Iranian ship smuggling drugs and people.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) Deputy Director for Technical and Commercial Affairs, Ali Ezati said that no ship belonging to the IRISL was sized in the UAE, Iran’s Fars news agency reported Dec. 23.

No information was received in this respect, he said, adding none of the IRISL ships were detained by the UAE authorities, not even delayed.

Ezati however added that the claimed ship may be owned by private Iranian shipping lines.

The UAE media outlets reported Dec. 22 that an Iranian ship smuggling drugs and two people has been seized by the UAE's Interior Ministry.

The ship’s captain was attempting to smuggle in drugs and two people through Khalid port in Sharjah.

Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi, director of the anti-narcotics department at the ministry, said 11.5 kilograms of hashish and 142,725 narcotic pills were hidden on the ship.

He added that 10 people on board the ship have been arrested, two of which were hidden in the ships’ ballast tank with the intention of smuggling them into the country.
