At least 2.6 percent of Iranian students entering universities suffer from drug addiction, Deputy Secretary General of Iran’s anti-Drug Headquarters Alireza Jazini said.
The headquarters is not satisfied with the status of preventive measures that the Science Ministry is supposed to carry out, he said, Iran’s ICANA news agency reported on December 26.
The official noted that the most popular drug among Iranian students is "gol" - a commercial name for marijuana, which is used by Iranian dealers to mislead customers.
He added that his department is initiating policies to prevent increase of addiction rate among students and has set new rules for the ministries of science and health.
A while back, Saeed Sefatian, head of drugs department at the Expedience Council, had expressed concern that marijuana is becoming more and more popular among women in Iran.
