Tehran, Iran, January 4
By Mehdi Sepahvand –- Trend:

A street in Tehran has been renamed to Nimr, after the Saudi government executed prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr for expressing his political views.

The Basij department of the Municipality of Tehran changed the name of the street which leads to the Saudi embassy in the Iranian capital, Fars news agency reported on January 4.
Iran had warned against the execution of Nimr since his death sentence was issued by a Saudi court in mid-October.

The execution has caused great rift between the two regional powers, so much so that Riyadh ended diplomatic relations with Tehran.
