The recent statement of the Georgian Energy Ministry does not correspond to the response obtained in connection with Gazprom’s negotiations October 30, 2015, Tamar Kordzaia, the representative of the parliamentary majority from the Republican Party, told reporters, Georgia Online reported.

She said that when the first talks about the extension of the contract with Gazprom were held, the Republican fraction showed an interest in the issue and appealed to the minister of energy with a letter. The answer was obtained October 30, 2015.

"We wondered whether the Russian gas supplies to Georgia will increase or not,” she said. “If it increases, we wondered about the segment. We also wondered whether this is the social gas or commercial supply. In case of increase, we wondered whether the political risks that can follow the relations with Gazprom are taken into account or not. The ministry’s yesterday's statement does not correspond to the response concerning Gazprom October 30.”

“According to a response letter, a long-term contract was formalized with SOCAR to ensure the demand of the social segment in 2009,” she said. “At present, the country does not plan to buy gas for the commercial sector from Gazprom as this sector has been regulated. The commercial customers have the opportunity to choose a supplier at their own discretion.”
