Baku, January 15, AZERTAC
Leibovitz began her career as a photojournalist with Rolling Stone in 1970 before moving on to work for Vanity Fair and Vogue, and is one of the world’s best known photographers, according to the Lonely Planet.
The series, WOMEN: New Portraits, will open 16 January at the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station in London. The exhibit will then go to Tokyo, San Francisco, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Istanbul, Frankfurt, New York and Zurich.
The exhibit is a continuation of Leibovitz’ previous series, called Women, which was both an exhibition and published in a book in 1999. The new exhibit is also a work in progress as Leibovitz will photograph women in the host cities of the show as it continues to travel.
The new images feature artists, musicians, politicians, writers and more from around the world, including politician Aung San Suu Kyi, actor Amy Schumer and singer Adele.
Leibovitz’ photographs have been displayed around the world, including the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, the National Portrait Gallery in London and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. She has been honoured with many awards over the years and is designated a Living Legend by the Library of Congress.
