Turkish football league on hold for one week after bus attack

Baku. 6 April. REPORT.AZ/ Turkey's top football division has been put on hold for one week after an attack on Fenerbahce team's bus, the Turkish Football Federation announced Monday.
Turkish Youth and Sports Minister Akif Cagatay Kilic, Yildirim Demiroren -- Turkey's chief football official -- and members of a national association of football clubs met in Istanbul to discuss the aftermath of the attack. After the meeting, Demiroren announced that the Turkish Cup quarterfinal second leg matches and the 27th week of the Turkish Super League have been postponed for one week.
Report informs referring the information given by theAnadolu Agency, on Sunday, Fenerbahce had requested postponement of the leagues until the case is solved.
"The incident that the team witnessed after the match is not a simple case carried out by a fan," the team said on its official website. "This was an organized armed attack and an assassination attempt against Fenerbahce."
Fenerbahce's bus came under attack Saturday night when it was travelling on the Rize-Trabzon highway near Arsin district. The Yellow Canaries were off to Trabzon to catch their plane to Istanbul.
The attack took place after the game against Caykur Rizespor in Rize province, which Fenerbahce won 5-1. The team's bus was hit by a shotgun shell, leaving the driver severely injured.
