Chairman of the Religious Community of Mountain Jews in Baku Milikh Yevdayev said Azerbaijan is an excellent example of tolerance in the world. “By its positive example, Azerbaijan proves the possibility of the coexistence of Muslims, Jews and Christians in peace and mutual respect.”
President Ilham Aliyev recently signed a decree on awarding the religious leaders and heads of religious communities in the country with Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Chairman of the Religious Community of Mountain Jews in Baku Milikh Yevdayev is one of the recipients of the Honorary Diploma, which recognizes his contribution to the development multiculturalism and inter-faith relations in Azerbaijan.
Yevdayev highly valued the award and expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for its attention to national minorities and religious communities.
“The government of Azerbaijan has created equal conditions for all religious communities in the country.”
He said that the history of the Jews in Azerbaijan dates back more than 2,000 years. “Representatives of the Jewish community together with representatives of other faiths freely practice their religion and traditions. Azerbaijan has never showed signs of anti-Semitism. Financed by the Azerbaijani government, a new synagogue was built in Baku for Mountain Jews of Azerbaijan. Representative of the Jewish community in the Azerbaijani parliament Yevda Abramov has been elected for the third term.”
