Ashgabat, December 13, AZERTAC
Relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have ancient and rich history. The two nations are bound with a number of common values, especially with the same roots, said chairman of Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov at a conference “Policy of Neutrality: International Cooperation for Peace, Security and Development” held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Mr.Asadov delivered Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s greetings and congratulations to the government and people of Turkmenistan as the country celebrates 20th anniversary of international recognition of its neutrality.
He expressed confidence that the exchanges of views and discussions would give the opportunity to get familiar with a 20-year long way of development of Turkmenistan.
Mr.Asadov noted that the status of neutrality has proved itself as a guarantee of successful independent development of states and as a model of productive foreign policy. He underlined that Turkmenistan was only country, whose decision to accept the neutrality status was officially recognized by the UN on December 12, 1995.
Prior to the conference, the attendees visited the monument of “Neutrality”.
Addressing the conference, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said for 20 years his country was keeping neutrality status, and gave contribution to international cooperation for peace and development.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Milli Majlis chair will meet heads of several delegations.
