Baku, December 25, AZERTAC
South Korea's foreign ministry said Friday it will hold a bilateral ministerial meeting with Japan next week to discuss the wartime sex slavery issue, according to Yonhap agency.
Under the plan, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida will hold the talk with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se on Monday.
The sexual slavery issue has been at the center of the two neighbors' recent diplomatic feud, with Seoul calling on Tokyo to apologize to and compensate South Korean victims.
Historians estimate that up to 200,000 women, mainly from Korea, which was a Japanese colony from 1910 to 1945, were forced to work in front-line brothels for Japanese soldiers during World War II.
Since taking office in early 2013, President Park Geun-hye held her first summit with Japanese leader Shinzo Abe in November and agreed to speed up bilateral talks to settle the dispute.
