Baku, January 14, AZERTAC
President of the European Taekwondo Union (ETU) Athanasios Pragalos has said a lot of significant sporting events were held in 2015 as he summarized the results of the last year, singling out the first European Games in Baku. “These Games were of vital importance for our organization. They went down in history as a very interesting, a new multi-sport event. Finally, Europe like other continents has succeeded in hosting its own multi-sport Games,” he said.
Pragalos also mentioned that ETU organized the European Championships Olympic weight categories in Russia last year. “I want to thank national federations-members of the Union for their assistance in organizing such great events.” “Also last year we decided to include para-Taekwondo in the program of 2020 Summer Paralympic Games.”
He also emphasized the importance of 2016 for the Union, describing Rio Summer Olympic Games as “the hugest sporting event of the year”. “The best athletes from across Europe and different parts of the world will compete in the Rio Games,” ETU President said.
“In addition, the first WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) President's Cup will be hosted by Germany this April. At the same time, the 40th anniversary of the European Taekwondo Union will be celebrated this year. And we will also continue to organize seminars for taekwondo coaches,” Pragalos added.
