Juventus are so desperate to keep Chelsea from snatching Leonardo Bonucci they are ready to extend their defender's contract beyond his 34th birthday, according to metro.co.uk.

The Italian centre-back has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge – so much so a report that the Blues were willing to offer Eden Hazard in the other direction seemed a tiny bit plausible.

Antonio Conte is understood to be keen on the 29-year-old international having worked with him in Turin and the Italian national team.

Juventus are understandably reluctant to let one of their prized assets depart and reports suggest they will offer him a new deal.

The terms would reportedly earn Bonucci £5million a year – and up to £8m once bonuses are included. It would make him among the best paid players at the club, according to reports.

The contract would also take him beyond his 34th birthday, with the deal a year longer than his current one, going up to 2021.
