By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

There is no reason for Turkey to be ashamed of its history as there was not the so-called genocide against the Armenians, Anadolu agency reported April 24 referring to Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Volkan Bozkır.

He said that if there had been "genocide" in the Turkish history, Ankara would not open its archives.

On April 23 US President Barack Obama refrained from calling the events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire as "genocide", Anadolu agency reported.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he does not expect his US counterpart to use the word "genocide" in relation to the events of 1915.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out ”genocide” against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the genocide" took place. While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.
