Tehran, Iran, August 9

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

The Iranian Parliament is going to appoint 15 members of the special commission on the country’s nuclear deal on August 10, Abdolreza Mesri, spokesman of the Parliament’s presiding board said.

The members will be selected during the open session that is going to be held that day; if not, however, their appointment will be relegated to the next week, he added, Nasim news agency reported August 9.

The nuclear deal, also called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was reached by Iran and the group 5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) on July 14.

It ended a long dispute over Iran’s nuclear program as Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities for a 10-year period and the six powers agreed to lift economic sanctions on Iran.

Commenting on how the commission members will be selected, Mesri said according to a parliamentary rule, 15 MPs will be selected by casting votes.

The parliamentary commission will study the JCPOA and has the right to accept or reject it.

Iranian MPs demanded a say on the nuclear deal as a kind of retaliation against US congressmen who had said they would annul the deal because they did not agree with President Barack Obama on signing the deal.
