A boat carrying illegal immigrants from Syria on board sank off Turkey’s coast in the Aegean Sea, Haber7 TV channel reported on Apr.6.
Four of over 20 illegal immigrants aboard died, while the lives of nine people were saved, according to the preliminary data.
Currently, a search is underway for other missing illegal immigrants.
This is not the first such incident in Turkey. The attempt of 330 illegal immigrants from Syria to go to Italy on a fishing vessel flying the flag of Togo was foiled on January 19, 2015 in Turkey’s Mersin province. Moreover, four Turkish citizens involved in dispatching the illegal immigrants to Italy, were detained.
