In a match against Slovenian taekwondo fighter Jure Pantar, the Azerbaijani athlete came out victorious with a score of 11:3. In the quarterfinals, Aykhan Taghizade defeated gold medal winner at London 2012 Olympic Games, two-time World and European champion, Joel González Bonilla from Spain with a score of 7:5 and reached the semifinals.
Azerbaijani female taekwondo fighter Gunay Aghakishiyeva (weight category up to 57 kg) lost her first match against Dragana Gladovic with a score of 8:4.
The athletes will compete in the weight categories of 68 (men) and 57 (women) on the second day of the taekwondo competition.
Note that, yesterday Azerbaijani female taekwondo fighter Patimat Abakarova (weight category up to 48 kg) won a bronze medal of the first European Games.
