Gabala hosted the 9th summit of the Council of Elders of Turkic-speaking countries.
The summit attendees laid wreathes at the monument of Heydar Aliyev.
During the summit, chairmen of the Councils of Elders of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan discussed a variety of issues. Chairman of the Republic Council of Elders, MP Fattah heydarov greeted the summit participants and said steps taken for the cooperation of Turkic-speaking countries have been on the rise over the last few years. In this regard, there are a number of initiatives being implemented. These initiatives, which are already coming to fruition, come as a new stage of Turkic-speaking countries’ cooperation in different areas is beginning. The results of steps and actions taken in this direction and future initiatives too have been the main themes of discussion in the coordination of Turkic-speaking states’ joint action.
Representative of other countries participating in the summit stressed the importance of further strengthening of economic and cultural-humanitarian ties among members of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States.
Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States Ramil Hasanov, Chairman of the Council of Elderly of Kyrgyzstan Beksultan Zakiyev, representative of Kazakhstan’s Council of Elderly, Senator Adil Ahmetov and Turkish MP Mustafa Isen made speeches.
At the summit, discussions were conducted on “Common Turkish history” textbook program for 8th grade students, the concept of integration of the Turkic States, “Common geography” book which were developed by the Turkish Academy. The participants also exchanged views on holding of the ministers’ meeting covering information and media fields prior to the 5th Summit on Information and Media Cooperation to be held in Kazakhstan on September 11.
The elders discussed TurkPA’s mission to observe the process in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections to be held in the Council member countries, exchanging views on the establishment of regional centers of Turkic-Speaking Countries Cooperation Council member countries’ Diasporas in the U.S, France and Germany, their joint activity and centralized management. Discussions also covered holding of the 2nd Summit of Fraternal Ports in Baku, as well as new cooperation projects in the fields of alternative energy, information and communication technologies among the member countries of the Council. At the end of the summit, the participants discussed further development of cooperation between the member countries as part of the proposed measures.
The Turkic-Speaking Countries Cooperation Council has been established in 2009 by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey in order to contribute to peace and stability in Eurasia. Its secretariat is located in Istanbul.
