Armenian armed forces 121 times broke ceasefire on various parts of the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops over the past 24 hours, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend Jan. 4.

Azerbaijani positions located in the village of Gizilhajili and on nameless heights of Gazakh district, as well as in the village of Kohne Gishlag of Aghstafa district underwent fire from the positions located in the villages of Paravakar and Berkaber, and on nameless heights of Armenia’s Ijevan district.

Azerbaijani positions located in the village of Alibayli of Tovuz district and on nameless heights of Gadabay district underwent fire from the positions located in the village of Mosesgeh of Armenia’s Berd district and on nameless heights in Armenia’s Krasnoselsk district.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located near the villages of Talish, Gulustan of Goranboy district, Chilaburt, Yarimja, Goyarkh, Chayli of Terter district, Shikhlar, Novruzlu, Javahirli, Kangarli, Sarijali, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli, Nemirli of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavand district, Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli of Fizuli district, and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.

Another ceasefire violation came from the positions located on nameless heights in Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 125 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
