Cabin crew at Lufthansa's budget airlines Germanwings and Eurowings will stage a 24-hour strike on Thursday, leading to the cancellation of about 380 flights in a dispute over pay and working conditions, according to Reuters.
Cabin crew at the budget carriers will begin a 24-hour walkout on Thursday, mainly impacting domestic flights from Duesseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund, Hannover, Stuttgart, Berlin and Hamburg. Around 380 flights will be cancelled, Eurowings said late on Wednesday. Long-haul flights will not be affected.
The UFO union called for the strikes after failing to strike a deal over short-term contracts for cabin crew.
"We regret that this escalation is necessary. But negotiations reached a point at which there is no alternative to a strike," UFO board member Nicoley Baublies said in a statement.
Lufthansa, which is using regional carriers Eurowings and Germanwings to expand its low-cost operations, urged UFO to return to the negotiating table.
