Iranian families living in urban areas face budget deficit

Iranian families, living in urban areas, had 14.8 million rials (about $450 based on free market rate) deficit in annual budget on average in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

An average Iranian family spent 320.8 million rials (about $9900) per year, but earned 310.3 million rials (about $9480) in the past year, according to a report published by the Central Bank of Iran.

The deficit in annual budget was 7.59 million rials (about $230), the report added.

Gross expense of an average urban family rose by 15.6 percent and gross income rose by 14.3 percent in Iran.

Housing, water, electricity, and gas bills accounted for 33.4 percent of expenses of the families, followed by foods and drinks, with 24.6 percent.

Iranian families spent 2.3 percent of their incomes on recreation and culture and 1.9 percent on education.

Some 7.2 percent of families had no employed member, while 15.2 percent of the families had two employed members.

Meanwhile, 64.4 percent of urban families lived in their own houses. Some 99.5 percent consumed tap water. Also, 28.4 percent used internet.
