Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took part on June 19 in the ceremony of awarding the winners of men’s taekwondo event (+80 kg) held as part of the First European Games in Baku.

Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter, world and European champion Radik Isaev captured the gold medal defeating Vladislav Larin who represented Russia, with a score 4:3.

Vedran Golec (Croatia) and Daniel Ros Gomez (Spain) shared the bronze medal, both coming in third place.

Ilham Aliyev personally awarded the athletes with medals.

At the end of the 8th day of European Games, Azerbaijan has 13 gold medals, five silver medals and 12 bronze medals.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
