Baku-APA. A Russian, a Ukrainian and two citizens of South Africa employed by the UN were rescued on Saturday from a hotel in the Malian town of Sevare, Stephane Dujarric, the official spokesperson for the UN Secretary General told TASS on Saturday, APA reports.
A group of armed militants seized the hotel on Friday and units of the national Armed Forces stormed it on Saturday.
He said four workers of a company contracted by MINUSMA (the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali) were rescued at 04:30 local time on Saturday. They had been hiding inside the building.
UN also confirmed that one of MINUSMA’s contract employees had died while storming the hotel.
