Baku-APA. Croatian police say they have seized more than 140 kilograms (308 pounds) of heroin on a border crossing with Serbia, APA reports quoting Reuters.

Croatian media said Tuesday the drugs have a street value of around 5.5 million euros ($5.9 million).

The drugs, divided into 261 packages, were discovered Monday during a routine control inside a van with German license plates. A Turkish and a German citizen were arrested on the Bajakovo border crossing, some 280 kilometers (170 miles) east of the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

Croatia, Serbia and other Balkan countries are considered to be key transit routes for drug smuggling from the Middle East to Western Europe.
