Dutch gymnast says necessary to continue tradition of holding European Games

The First European Games is a grandiose event wonderfully organized by Azerbaijan, Lieke Wevers, Dutch gymnast, bronze medal winner in the individual all-around final in artistic gymnastics at Baku 2015 told Trend June 19.

The gymnast said it is necessary to continue the tradition of holding the European Games, since they are important for the athletes in terms of gaining new experience.

The Dutch gymnast said she is very glad to take part in the Games.

She said gymnastics is well developed in Azerbaijan, adding that there are good gymnasts in this country.

The National Gymnastics Arena, where the competitions are being held, is very beautiful and it is very convenient to perform there, said the Dutch gymnast.

Wevers said she liked Azerbaijan very much.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
